Beautiful Beaches I’ve Been On
I’ve had the good fortune to visit some very beautiful beaches during my adult life. They range from Florida to California, to the Hawaiian Islands of Maui and Kauai, and Bermuda. My favorite aspect of visiting a beach is being able to relax. The rhymic lapping of the waves, directed by the moon, with their high and low tides is mesmerizing. I’m lulled into a state of relaxation each time my toes dip into the hot sand. Once there, no matter where the beach is, I find my spot, spread out my towel, get out my book, slather with sunscreen, and lay back to listen. The ocean waters have a sound you don’t find on a freshwater lake and it is the sound of them breaking against the shore whether that shore is formed by coral, lava, shells, or rocks.
I’m affected by the salty smell and the color of both the sand and water. The most beautiful beaches to me smell of salt spray, not fish or debris, and have clear turquoise water.
Hawaii
My all-time favorite beach is Kapalua Bay Beach on the island of Maui. It is on the island’s northwest shore. The beach is a protected cove that is ideal for families, sunbathing, and snorkeling. The sand is golden, fine, and soft, perfect for an afternoon of relaxation. It’s relatively small and the protected bay offers smaller waves but retains the ability to view sea turtles and colorful fish. We’ve been to this beach three times between 2009–2022. The biggest drawback is the lack of available parking. It is a public beach and parking is in short supply. We’ve found that it’s best…
