Being A Football Fan From Afar

We’ve always found it easier to be Buffalo Bills football fans from afar!

Last night we happened to be in the Buffalo area during the opening season of the fall football season. The Buffalo Bills were playing the LA Rams. As you know now, Buffalo won! We watched the first half at my sister’s house in one of Buffalo’s Northtowns suburbs. It was a glorious evening to sit outside, under their patio awning, drink wine and local beer, and eat Bocce Pizza and Wings. I hadn’t seen my sister in a year in person. It was good to catch up.

Strangely enough, a couple of years after she married a guy who was from Green Bay, we moved to Wisconsin (where there happens to be another throng of intense football fans)! This Green Bay Packers-loving guy wore a Buffalo Bill's shirt last night! And we all cheered on the win! This team deserves some credit for how they’ve performed in the last few years. And clearly beating last year’s Super Bowl winner on that team’s turf definitely adds to their cred.

Neither my husband nor I have been huge football fans. Growing up in Western New York cheering for the Bills was second nature for most. They were THE hometown team, whether you lived in the Rochester or Buffalo area, the Bills were it. The great rivalry was against the Miami Dolphins. And, I remember a crush I had…
