Collecting Small Souvenirs: A Fun Way to Look Back

Does Disney still encourage pin trading?

I imagine since the pandemic this has slowed down or even stopped entirely. I don’t know as I haven’t been to Walt Disney World (WDW) in Florida for years. Maybe it was a passing fad and we were passing by at the time. When our boys were young, we visited WDW several times. We’d go in the fall when our school system had a long break in October. The break was done away with and our boys grew, becoming too busy with school and activities to be away for a week. Still, they were fun times and fondly remembered.

We all bought lanyards and a few characters, ride, or park pins to add to our collection. It was a fun way to have a keepsake of the trip without breaking the bank. No, the pins weren’t cheap but there was such a wide variety of them, as parents, we could control what was spent. The pins could be traded with other park goers but we never participated in that part of collecting. We bought what we liked and wanted to keep them.

When we were cleaning out, prior to our move last June, I gathered the lanyards, still filled with pins, and put them in the boys’ totes that…
