I’m Tanking Here and I Know Why!

Medium is driving me nuts, lately, and I’m getting tired of it.

As a writer and teacher, I am reflective of what I do. I self-analyze and try to improve but it’s getting tougher and tougher to do that on Medium. The reason? Things are not logical.

Last month was my worst month ever since joining the medium partner program last August. This month appears as if it will be worse, and I might not even make my $5.00 membership fee back in revenue. It sucks.

There are several reasons why I think this is happening.

1. I don’t sensationalize my titles or my writing. (Many popular writers on Medium do this. I’m not judging. But it’s just not me and for me to do it would be going against who I am as a writer and person).
2. My feed is jammed with old articles! Just this morning I’ve seen articles from 2018, 2020, 2021, and 2022 — very few from 2023. Is this what I’m competing with? Old articles from other writers? Why? I don’t understand. A new article should be seen, not buried under popular “old” posts. I’m finding this especially frustrating. Articles should be timely. It’s February — I don’t want to read or write articles on Hummingbirds — these were featured among some of the old posts in my feed this morning!
