Instead of Poetry Friday: Bird Brain

For the last two years, I’ve participated in an online forum called Poetry Friday. Mostly, it is poetry written for kids by a variety of poets. Some poets are published, some are not, some poets are teachers, and some are not. There’s a lot of variety. I’ve enjoyed getting to know the poets in this forum over the last two years and count many now as “friends.” But, it’s not always productive for me to post. Poetry Friday usually starts on Thursday. It is because more than a few of the writers are submitted from outside the U.S. or overseas, where it is already Friday. I cannot seem to get my act together to post on Thursday for a Friday forum, especially since I write daily anyway. As a result, I am one of the last to post to the forum. Each week, a host gathers the posts (ideally, each containing poetry) and shares them in a “round up.” From the roundup, participants can (and should) visit the postings of other participants and comment. The commenting is important, as it is on this platform. We all know that. But since I’m one of the last to post (due to the Thursday-Friday reason), I invariably get fewer comments (sometimes only one or two) than others (ten to fifteen).

Now, don’t get me wrong everyone IS very nice. But, I’d love some comments too. In recent months, a couple of times, the only comment I’ve gotten has been from the host. So, I feel like I need a change. I’m…
