It’s December 1st, Do You Feel the Pressure?
Shopping, baking, wrapping, cards, and traveling. Can you fit it all in this month? Do you want to?
Last night I didn’t sleep well. It’s a common occurrence for me, as I suffer from insomnia and it seems to go in cycles. After a week to ten days of solid sleep at night, I know I’m due for a bout of this malady.
But what occurred to me when I was awake was why I was awake. Sometimes this illudes me but last night, it didn’t. I felt the pressure. Oh, not in my chest or on the side I happened to be laying. It was the familiar pressure of the holiday season and getting things done.
My husband and I are retired, so as he would tell me, I should not feel any pressure at all. We are empty nesters living a good life in the Northwoods of Wisconsin, making our days what we want them to be. So the fact that I feel pressure to get things done because of an impending holiday is absurd! I have all the time in the world compared to most!
But this feeling of pressure and being awake in the middle of the night because of it is from being conditioned to be this way. Society tells us we have to be doing this or that at any certain time to be ready for the holiday. Truly, it’s hogwash!
