No, I Didn’t Steal a Six Pack of Beer

Still, I left the store feeling like I did something wrong.

This really happened. I was double charged for a six-pack of beer two days before Thanksgiving. When I went back to the store, on Thanksgiving Day, I left feeling like I had done something wrong!

Here’s what happened. I had a cart full of food for the holiday. Our sons and their significant others were all coming to celebrate Thanksgiving. Our holiday meal, however, was not going to be until Saturday. This was done to accommodate them going to the families of their significant others or work schedules. It worked. I mean the holiday is when you are all together, not a specific day of the week! Right?!

I wanted to get the turkey and accompaniments so that I could do some pre-celebration cooking to ease my stress on the day of the meal. As I headed to the checkout, I noted how full my cart was. I had a bottle of wine and a six-pack of beer, among a lot of other stuff.

The bagger, who was a cognitively impaired employee, came forward and took the beer out of my cart, and scanned it with a hand scanner that the cashier had given her. Immediately, the cashier saw that she had scanned the beer and reprimanded her saying, you can’t do that — you’re not allowed, it’s not legal! The bagger immediately filled up with…
