Ekphrastic Poetry uses art to inspire poems

In April of this year, I published a poetry book for middle-grade students that was all ekphrastic poetry.

In my book, I defined the art form as:

In the anthology I curated, I featured 25 authors from around the world who took nature photographs and then wrote a poem based on their photograph.

Each author had 1–3 poems featured, depending on what I accepted. I am also a featured author, as well as the publisher of this Indie book, Picture Perfect Poetry: An Anthology of Ekphrastic Nature Poetry for Students.

Writing ekphrastic poetry is harder than it seems. One has to address the art form in some what with your words. Rattle, a literary magazine, features an Ekphrastic Poetry Challenge each month. I’ve submitted a few times and will probably continue to do so.
