The Des Moines River in Iowa has a unique spiraling shape of rectangular arches. We saw this on a hike one day with our son who attended a University near there. Apparently, at night, there are strands of blue lights that light the spiral. Now, that would be something to see!

Both my husband and I grew up in Western New York, but my home was within a few miles of the famed Erie Canal. It was something that always fascinated me. It was ingenious and creative, made by a lot of hard work and by people working together. Today, when we travel in New York, the canal is ever-present. This summer we saw the eastern locks such as this one in the Mohawk Valley.
