The Great Outdoors — Our Yard In April Transforms

The earth awakens as perennials break through the brown ground with green stems, early flowers, and budding trees.

One of the first things we see early in the month of April is a change from brown to green. Typically, I’ll inspect my gardens as soon as the snow melts.

I know that soon there’ll be the spear-shaped, green foliage of iris, tulips, and daffodils poking their way through the brown, dead-appearing ground.

The flowers that come to life with the longer, warmer, and wetter days that spring brings are often from bulbs. They’ve waited under the soil for months until the signals from mother nature tell them to grow.

Moss and ferns, along with spring ephemerals start to reappear, almost as if magic placed…
