This is a huge problem in the US as well. We've lost most of our open prairies. When we moved to Wisconsin in 1999 there was an abundance of farmland and prairie - now most of it is housing developments. This is true all over the Midwest. Contiguous corridors for wildlife migration have been significantly diminished, making the journey for those species, whether bird or pollinator, more hazardous than usual. We must engage our youth in caring for the earth so they feel that connection and want to live sustainably, all the while caring for natural environments. We are doomed if this doesn't happen.
