To Bag Or Not To Bag Your Own Groceries
Today, shoppers must make the decision that is right for them.
Before we moved to our cabin in a rural part of Wisconsin, I rarely bagged my groceries except for going to the self-checkout with a few items.
When I did bag my cartload of groceries as a cashier checked me out, I felt rushed and awkward. I often did not do a good job, with my bags heavy and overflowing. I often felt I needed to act quickly to get out of the way of the person in line behind me. So, I wasn’t a fan.
Last summer after we moved to our cabin, I often came home from the grocery store frustrated. I liked the store and the selection of food they carried but the checkout process was abysmal. Frequently, there were only 1–2 lanes open to check out. The baggers were slow and none of them seemed to not pay attention to what they were doing.
For example, once I saw my eggs go into the bottom of a bag before I stopped the person putting them into it. Many other times, I had my bread or rolls squished by other groceries.
My solution?
Go through self-checkout and bag my own groceries — even if I have a cart full of food. This has worked for me. Since I am both scanning my items and bagging them, I keep up at my own pace. I don’t feel…
