Tomato: It’s How You Spell Summer

There’s nothing better than a homegrown tomato from a family farm

Homegrown tomatoes? Yes, please!

There is not much more that says summer than the red, ripe, aromatic fruit of the tomato.

Deliciously fresh, tomatoes add the incredible taste of our warmest days to ubiquitous favorites such as hamburgers, salsa, and salads.

Earlier this week, my sister sent me a photo of a sign she found in a suburban Buffalo Wegmans Grocery Store.

It showed some beautiful tomatoes, their price per pound, and what local farm they were from — a farm in the town in which we grew up — about 70 miles from where the store was in a Buffalo suburb.

Although neither of us knew of this farm, hometown pride swelled like we were tomatoes on the vine after a warm summer rain.

Looking up the farm’s address on the internet, I discovered it just a few miles up the road from my Dad’s house — where we were staying for a visit this week.

And on their website, it proudly stated that this was a farm that was run by 2nd and 3rd generation…
