Tremendous Nature Scapes: Scenes from Maine, Part I
This state has it all…almost!
When I first started to investigate going to Maine for a vacation, I quickly knew we would enjoy it. The state has many beautiful natural areas, including Acadia National Park. What I did not realize is that Maine has a little something for everyone!
We started with a night in Brunswick and did not take advantage of all there is to see there. A swinging bridge and Bowdoin College were not far from our hotel, but we were there mainly to rest for our trek to Bar Harbor and a stay near Acadia National Park the next day.
Let me just say that Acadia is beautiful and has a nature scape for just about anyone. It has forested woodland trails, rock scrambles, extensive vistas such as the panoramic photograph above from Cadillac Mountain, a sand beach tucked away as a crescent between rocky cliffs, an ocean coastline, freshwater ponds, and lakes (some of which, like Jordan Pond, supply a source for drinking water for the surrounding communities), tide pools, and even some easily recognizable prairie plants such as solidago (golden rod) asters, milkweed, and fleabane. And lots of fungi!
