Writing Groups: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

For the last few years, I’ve belonged to two online writing groups. For me, they’ve held their ups and downs. And right now, I’m in a down period. But, first, some background.

Five years ago last February (2017) I joined the online forum created and hosted by TwoWritingTeachers.org. My purpose in joining was to help me get in the habit of writing daily. The group hosted a Slice of Life Challenge where participants had to write daily during the month of march. The challenge was well established by the time I joined and during the year the same group hosts, Slice of Life Tuesday, in which I’ve continued to post for five years. I did the Slice of Life Challenge for six years but did not participate this year. I just didn’t have enough people reading my writing and commenting. The challenge requires each participant to comment on at least three other blogs on Tuesday or each day in March depending on which writing exercise you choose to participate in. Sometimes I only got one comment, sometimes five or six.

The year before last, I upped my anti and decided maybe I was the one who needed to be more involved in the Slice of Life Daily Challenge in March. So, I became part of the welcome wagon, was assigned more “new” writers to comment on daily, and provided a set of books for randomly chosen winners through the TwoWritingTeachers.org…
